For a keyboard to be compatible with Playground Sessions, it must have either a MIDI Out port, or a USB to Host port. Luckily, most Clavinovas have both.
Here are the steps to connect your Clavinova to your computer using either port options.
CONNECTING WITH THE MIDI PORT
1. Locate the MIDI In and Out ports on the keyboard. These ports are typically located in the back of the keyboard, but on some models, they are located underneath the keyboard.
2. Using a MIDI to USB cable,
plug the MIDI IN end of the cable into the MIDI OUT port on the keyboard. Plug the MIDI OUT end of the cable into the MIDI IN port on the keyboard. (If plugging the cables in the above manner doesn't establish a connection, swap out the cables).
3. Plug the USB A end of the cable into your computer.
Once connected, open the Playground Sessions app and walk through the keyboard configuration steps. Make sure to power on the keyboard when you're ready to play.
CONNECTING WITH THE USB PORT
1. Locate the USB port on the keyboard. This port is typically located in the back of the keyboard, but on some models, it is located underneath the keyboard.
2. Using a USB A to B cable, also referred to as a "printer cable",
plug the USB B end of the cable (square-ish in shape) into the USB port on your keyboard.
3. Plug the USB A end of the cable into your computer.
Once connected, open the Playground Sessions app and walk through the keyboard configuration steps. Make sure to power on the keyboard when you're ready to play.
By connecting your keyboard to your computer with the necessary cable, Playground will then be able to recognize the keys you play on your keyboard and offer real-time feedback.
