Both, actually! Playground Sessions is made up of three main parts - the "Bootcamp", "Courses" and the "Songs". Between these three sections, you'll learn how to play the piano, important theory and musicianship skills, and learn how to play your favorite songs.
BOOTCAMP
Our Bootcamp is home to all of our music theory lessons. Here, you'd learn everything including:
- How to name the keys on your keyboard
- How to read sheet music
- How to play simple and complex rhythms
- How to play by ear
- Different approaches to playing chords
- And much more!
In addition to music theory lessons, the Bootcamp also addresses important topics that build correct technique at the piano, including:
- 5 finger hand positions
- Pivoting
- Alternating hands
- Extended positions
- Changing hand positions
- Practice techniques
- Hand coordination
- Pedaling
- And much more!
All of our Bootcamp lessons are laid out in sequential order, allowing you to easily build on the knowledge you pick up along the way. Our lessons progress from a beginner level all the way to an advanced level, and best of all, each concept that you learn in our lessons comes with a real-world, popular song example to help give context and make the learning fun and relevant. These popular songs come from major artists like The Beatles, Beyonce, Elton John, Duke Ellington, and more.
COURSES
Our "Courses" section builds on the Bootcamp experience by introducing you to a deeper dive into some of the most important piano and music topics. Each one is a standalone, supplementary curriculum that will help you build your piano technique and musicianship skills. Some of them address traditional, but essential topics in pedagogical piano literature:
- Scales
- Chords
Other courses unique to Playground also include:
- Both hands practice
- Reading sheet music
- 50 famous melodies
- And more to come!
SONG STORE
Our Song Store is where you'd go to learn how to play full-length songs of your choice. Similar to our Bootcamp lessons, our songs are also available for beginners, intermediate players, and advanced players. Some of our songs come with video lessons, and others are in "interactive sheet music" format.
